Day 16, 04072008, San Diego - Carlsbad
What's going to West California without paying a visit to the world's best zoo??
However we didn't go to the San Diego Zoo, we went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park instead. (they're under the same company)
Other than the car that Ivan rented from his friend, he got a GPS too. Thanks to technology we need not worry about getting lost.
After two hours, we reached San Diego WAP.
A lion at the entrance. Ah, what affinity.
There was a brochure we received that said that a lion plush was on sale for USD 16.99 each. I was contemplating if I should get 'cos it's too expensive. Though there was the San Diego WAP logo tagged to it so it can very well double up as a souvenir as well. Tight budget, tight budget!
The first exhibit we went to was the African Aviary. Birds of many kinds but I can't remember them and I don't know most of them. =\
Flamingos.
Hot-air balloon (extra charges) that you can take to see a bird's eye view of the area. Since there's an extra charge we ended up taking a photo OF the balloon and not FROM the balloon HAHAHA so sad.
We got to pet kraals.
And one was so hungry it was waiting by the feed dispenser, wishing you'd slot a quarter in and out comes the food.
This only reminds me of 松鹤香米.
Gorilla. The rest of the gorillas had their backs faced towards us. I bet they know we wanna see them so the more they won't let you see. Haha.
We went for the Frequent Flyers animal show.
I came alllllll the way to the U.S., alllll the way to San Diego, alllllll the way to the Wild Animal Park, how can I not see lions??? LIONS!!!
MUAHAHAHAHA.
But it was a super hot day, not only the lions, I wanted to lie around too.
SUPER CUTE RIGHHHHHT. O-M-G I was so happy that I saw lions. And so many of them up close! Yeay! Mission accomplished.
Lunch was quesadilla. Quite nice. The cheapest on the menu.
The best part is this! MUAHAHAHAHA.
LION WATER BOTTLE!! USD 9.99. The best part is free flow of drinks all day!!! =D So we just kept on refilling. DJ got a baboon water bottle!
It was really super hot, even we couldn't take it at some point. And the rhinos too.
This photo reminds me of The Lion King.
Elephants.
Condor.
And we made a turn to go see other exhibits and we passed by the Lion Camp again!! =D
Pumbaa. The warthog.
Passed by somewhere that we can feed ducks. Ivan bought feed from the machines a couple of times and while DJ, John and I wandered around he and CY were happily feeding the ducks. I fed this duck a bit of feed and let it peck at my palm and that was the end of the fun. HAHA.
And like the kraal earlier on, this duck knew goodies will fall out of that box.
This was a highly active tortoise. It moves so fast I think it'd win in a race against the hare. No la just exaggerating. But it was really active.
Sleeping flamingos. Amazing how they can sleep and retain their balance with one leg. Aren't they tired? Hahaha. Try sleeping their way.
Caught a wild rabbit.
Cheetah. We only saw one cheetah. And at another enclosure we saw one tiger which was sleeping and soooo far away from where we could see it. So irritating. Hahaa.
In places like this in the U.S. they like to spray water from everywhere in the summer to ensure you're cool. And thanks to this we saw a rainbow.
Pelicans.
Timon! Meerkat.
After much thinking, I decided to get the lion la =P Some sort of belated birthday present for myself =D HAHA excuses.
We left WAP in the evening and made our way to nearby Carlsbad for some food and to explore. And check out if we can see fireworks since it was the Fourth of July.
Over here they say 'Happy Fourth of July' more often than I hear someone say 'Happy Independence Day'. In Singapore...do we even say 'Happy National Day'?
Carlsbad is by the coast too, so there's a beach that was rather overcrowded due to the public holiday.
People just live by the beach. One of us mentioned something about tsunami but well let's not talk about it. Choy.
We found some place to have pizza. A set of two huge slices + a soda for USD 6. And we got five sets.
There was an old man at the pizzeria who wore a red shirt and suspenders and a pair of pants that had the stars and stripes of the American flag. So cute laaa.
What I bought for myself today: Lion postcards and Lion No. 50!!
HAHAHAHAHHAHA. LION NO. 50! 50!!! Someone stop me from buying any more.
